Fashion designers can also be the trendsetters when it comes to protecting the planet. Its impressive how the industry is getting conscious about fashion’s impact on the planet and is working on a sustainable approach in their own ways; be it methods of production, sourcing or manufacturing. Even in India, a lot of young designers are working on the same approach. In this post we will talk about the designer’s approach for this label and how it all started for her.
This post is all about DHAARI, brainchild of Deepika Aggarwal who with her mindful approach on the perspective of fashion created this label in 2016 and generated a name in a very short span of time. Dhaari has already exhibited in major cities of the country and overseas. Over a quick chat with the designer herself I felt that the brand has tremendous potential and has a long way to go. I, for one, am already in love with her first collection.
In conversation with Deepika Aggarwal –
Q: What came in your mind when you named your label “DHAARI”?
A: Dhaari to me is a path. A line “infinite in itself and so is the approach towards design and fashion directed by “a path” or “to follow” concept. According to our label, design means delivering the expectation with our interpretation for our customers.
Q: Who is a Dhaari woman and what is your design aesthetic?
A: An ideal Dhaari woman is modern bold woman. As Dhaari focuses on creating statement in designing modern mix of silhouettes which includes clever cuts, asymmetrical patterns and simplicity of lines making it a capsule collection. The garment carries the legacy of distinctive handmade Indian textiles.
Q: What is next for Dhaari?
A: We are planning to extend to mens wear and kidswear, Right now there is a lot of things on our plate.
Q: A random question that came in my mind when we talk about sustainable approach to clothing. Are you a Vegan?
A: Haha …. Yes I am.
